Hoppy Holidays!

Beer ladies! I wanted to take a moment to wish you all a wonderful holiday! Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, happy whatever-it-is-you-celebrate! Enjoy your friends and family and holiday beers.

On January 12th at 7pm, we will be having a planning meeting at Hough's. You all are welcome to attend as this is your club, too. We do now have a core planning committee, but value everyone's input.

While we figure out which venue/brewery will be next, we may have a tasting at TheBeerHive at the end of January. They contacted me about perhaps having something at their location. Hey, it's a great place and the events are free. Some possible options for the beginning of the year are Hough's, Barley's & Hop's, D's, Bocktown, Draai Laag Brewery and others.

Cheers! See you all next year!

A beer for all women

As it gets closer to our first event, I'm realizing I have my own vision for the Pittsburgh Beer Ladies; a group of smart women who are interested in trying new kinds of beer, learning about craft beer and, hopefully, supporting women in the beer industry, as well. This being said, without members, there would be no group so I would like your input. Why do you want to be part of this group? What do you hope to get out of it? This is a new venture and, to be honest, I'm not sure what to expect. Everyone attending will most likely have their own ideas about what the Pittsburgh Beer Ladies is or should be. I am very open to any ideas you might have and would also love to hear your thoughts on what we should do for future events.

As a reminder, our first event will be held on Friday, June 3 (7pm-9pm) at Penn Brewery. I just learned that Penn Brewery is a woman-owned business which makes it an even more apt place for our initial event. I am working with them now and hoping to get some sort of tasting set up for us. In the meantime, here are some things I'd like those of you attending or thinking of joining us to consider.

  • What do you want out of this group?
  • What would you like to see us do?
  • What kinds of beers are you interested in?
  • Is there a particular brewery you'd like us to feature?
  • What ideas might you have for future events?

I am very excited about the creation of this group and hopeful about its potential. Most of all, I am looking forward to seeing all of you. Some of you I have known for years. Others I have yet to meet. Thank you for being a part of this journey.

New Brews

There's a relatively new brewery in Pittsburgh, Hop Yard Brewing Company. They are a nanobrewery in the Beaver Falls area. Might be a good option for a July event.

Ok, ladies...let's get this party started!

Thanks to the wonderful inspiration of my friend, Colleen, I've created The Pittsburgh Beer Ladies. This is a group for women who love beer...like me! Right here, in the great city of Pittsburgh, we have brew pubs, breweries, great beer-focused bars and restaurants with amazing beer offerings. This club is intended to bring women together regularly to try new beers, pair them with different foods, and also to meet other smart women interested in beer and socializing.

For our first outing, I've chosen the Penn Brewery for two reasons. One, I haven't been there in forever. Two, why not? They've got good atmosphere and good beer. We'll meet Friday, June 3rd at 7pm. Please join us for a fun night out sampling beer and enjoy some great conversation! This outing is open to all. If I've missed anyone, please feel free to invite them and rsvp on Facebook.
