A beer for all women

As it gets closer to our first event, I'm realizing I have my own vision for the Pittsburgh Beer Ladies; a group of smart women who are interested in trying new kinds of beer, learning about craft beer and, hopefully, supporting women in the beer industry, as well. This being said, without members, there would be no group so I would like your input. Why do you want to be part of this group? What do you hope to get out of it? This is a new venture and, to be honest, I'm not sure what to expect. Everyone attending will most likely have their own ideas about what the Pittsburgh Beer Ladies is or should be. I am very open to any ideas you might have and would also love to hear your thoughts on what we should do for future events.

As a reminder, our first event will be held on Friday, June 3 (7pm-9pm) at Penn Brewery. I just learned that Penn Brewery is a woman-owned business which makes it an even more apt place for our initial event. I am working with them now and hoping to get some sort of tasting set up for us. In the meantime, here are some things I'd like those of you attending or thinking of joining us to consider.

  • What do you want out of this group?
  • What would you like to see us do?
  • What kinds of beers are you interested in?
  • Is there a particular brewery you'd like us to feature?
  • What ideas might you have for future events?

I am very excited about the creation of this group and hopeful about its potential. Most of all, I am looking forward to seeing all of you. Some of you I have known for years. Others I have yet to meet. Thank you for being a part of this journey.

  1. -This is soooo exciting! I would want the chance to get together w/women who want to chat about everything over good beer.
-I think small classes or discussions about various beers, or casual tastings, plus field trips would be great.
-I love IPAs, but am willing to try most anything.
-Well, let's start with East End and its new location. That would be a good jumping off point.
-Lots of good locations near Pittsburgh for little trips, such as Vintage Estates in Boardman, Ohio, or up to Cleveland for Great Lakes, etc.
    -See you in June! MrsCrappy

  2. * I love tasting different beers and learning about the different brewing ingredients and processes to create those different tastes. And, I love getting out of 'mom' mode and remembering that I'm still a person!

    * Lots of tastings!! =)

    * I particularly love ambers and reds, although I'm really starting to enjoy wheats as well.

    * Being new to the area, I'm just excited to get to know the local brews.

    * Field trip to the Erie MicroBrew Festival, getting lessons on how to brew our own beers. =)

  3. Kelly,

I'm so glad you're excited! You've got some great ideas! I love the idea of East End, too. He's in the process of moving his brewery, but he has lots of Growler Hours locations. I plan to call him and see if perhaps we could set up some kind of tasting at one of those locations.

Looking forward to meeting you at our first event! Thanks for joining us!

  4. Jess,

Amen! I've got two kids of my own so I know exactly how that feels. A field trip to a brew fest is definitely a great idea! There are some wonderful festivals in our area every year. The next one is in Ohiopyle outside the Falls City pub on June 18th. I plan to attend. We could perhaps make it an informal meetup :)

Welcome to the area! Where did you move from?

I'm thrilled that you're excited! I'm curious to see how this develops, as well. Perhaps we'll meet at an event.

  7. Can we aim for something with East End Brewing Co? They do not have a restaurant - their facility is just the brewery with a tasting area - but great selection of beer! I'm more than happy to approach them if you would like some help - cannot wait to meet you on June 3! :) Sarah

I'd love to do something with them! I did call and leave Scott a message, but I'm sure the brewery is really busy right now with the move. Yes! I'd love some help :) Thank you! I'm looking forward to meeting you, too!
